The Bunny

The Retro Spark

I was looking for some inspiration and something new. Something fun that really said "me" and allowed me to explore my inner wants and feelings the way that maybe Disney did for me many years ago, but has since lost.

I've developed an immediate love for Zap. He's the best version of me. Born in the wrong era, but linked to this one. Relaxed, chill, doesn't overthink, loves lounging around his 70s townhome, watching vintage gameshows. Not too much thinking, just enjoying.

He's got that warmth of the classic Price is Right color scheme from 1972. It didn't last long, and I thought I'd never see it again, just like I thought I'd never see myself as relaxed and disconnected as Zap.

First Sketches & Drafts

I've always been tangentially interested in the community, and interested, and now felt like a good time to jump in.

His big ears provide warmth and comfort, his design implies yesterday, but that neon stripe on his back is inability to fully let go of today.

Zap's design process started with simple black-and-white ink sketches, quickly evolving into color drafts with sunglasses and orange accent markings.

He does wear clothes (maybe some vintage MK and inspired vibes) and I'm excited that I've got some amazing art commissions out on him that I can't wait for. Planning some local community meet-up stuff, a con this year, and just a ton of play with him, because, boy, I feel like I've found a little friend on my other side that I haven't connected to in a long time.

I've deep dived into Furry the last few months, and maybe the most refreshing thing is how...human it all is. People making things, playing with ideas, and most of all, there's not some overriding force trying to control it all. People doing things, gathering, creating things. Feels refreshing and Zap and I can't wait to explore it more.
